Marcel Reed, Texas A&M quarterback, has withdrawn from the Senior Bowl.
It was discovered that the stress fracture he had surgery to repair before the start of the season didn’t fully heal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Reed had a rod inserted into his leg during surgery, but he unknowingly ended up playing through the season with the injury after the bone didn’t fully heal.
He has been advised to have no impact on his leg for 3-4 weeks to let the bone heal, per Rapoport.
Reed will conduct Scouting Combine interviews in Indianapolis next month and plans to perform at his Pro Day in March.
He is expected to be a top-50 pick.
Reed finished his Aggie career with 8,426 passing yards, 66 touchdowns, 23 interceptions, and 5,102 rushing yards.
Marcel Reed, Texas A&M quarterback, has officially withdrawn from the Senior Bowl due to an ongoing injury that had previously been overlooked.
Reports from Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reveal that a stress fracture in Reed’s leg, which he had surgery on before the start of the season, did not heal properly. Reed underwent a procedure where a rod was inserted to stabilize the injury, but he unknowingly played through the season with the fracture still affecting his performance.
The injury has now been determined to require 3-4 weeks of rest to ensure proper healing, with doctors advising Reed to refrain from any weight-bearing activity during this time. While the timing is unfortunate, Reed’s long-term health is the priority, and he will focus on recovery for the next month.
Despite this setback, Reed remains a top prospect and is expected to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis next month, where he will conduct interviews with teams. He also plans to showcase his talents at his Pro Day in March, where teams will get a chance to evaluate his skills on the field.
Reed finished his collegiate career with impressive stats, totaling 8,426 passing yards, 66 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He also displayed his dual-threat ability, adding 5,102 rushing yards and 40 rushing touchdowns over his time at Texas A&M. Many analysts have pegged Reed as a top-50 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and once fully healed, he is expected to continue receiving strong interest from teams in need of a versatile quarterback with both arm and legs.
Given his performance and the high expectations, it’s likely this injury will not hurt his draft stock too much, provided he can demonstrate his health at the combine and Pro Day.
