On Friday, May 3, ADFAC (Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties Inc.) will host “Murder at the Lake,” its fourth murder mystery fundraiser.

“Event guests will put their sleuthing skills to the test as they enjoy a catered dinner, and a few attendees will be fortunate enough to bring home one of the live auction items,” a press release said.

“We are pleased to have five amazing auction items,” said Jamie LaRose, ADFAC development Director. “Our community has been very generous in providing a wonderful array of items and experiences.”

Auction items include a signed and framed Dalton Knecht jersey and a baseball signed by University of Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello, both courtesy of Melissa Charles. Sheila Michel is offering a traditional shrimp boil for 12, and Ron and Annie Cacheiro are providing a four-hour boat ride with water sports. Lastly, Tara and Brian Kneiser are donating a three-night cabin rental in the Smokies for six people.

The event will be held at Calhoun’s Event Center in Oak Ridge from 5 to 8 p.m. May 3. Tickets are $100 each and can be found at https://tinyurl.com/adfacmurder, and on ADFAC’s website and Facebook page. Ticket sales end on April 24.

The event is supported through Mighty Muskie sponsors CNS, Friends of ADFAC, and Gainfully Retired, LTD; and Bountiful Bluegill sponsors, Michael Bowers–Farm Bureau Insurance and Oak Ridge Utility District.

Additionally, nine area Edward Jones finance advisers have sponsored the food: Karl Flatau (Oak Ridge), Cory Gerlach (Knoxville), Josh Moles (Clinton), Michael Ousley (Clinton), Delauna Pack (Oak Ridge), Robert Patrick (Oak Ridge), Deric Runge (Kingston), Briana Sprunger (Oak Ridge), and Justin Willis (Oak Ridge).

“Proceeds from ‘Murder at the Lake’ ticket and raffle sales, live auction items, and sponsorships will support ADFAC’s work to bring hope and stability to the less fortunate in Anderson and surrounding counties,” the press release said.

ADFAC began in the mid 1980s as a local ecumenical effort to assist impoverished families.

“Over the years, ADFAC has honored its roots by developing a broad variety of programs designed to meet unfilled needs in the community and currently answers over 6,000 requests for assistance each year,” the press release said. Visit www.adfac.org for more information.

DETROIT — Dalton Knecht had 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Tennessee moved within a victory of its first trip to the Final Four, beating Creighton 82-75 in a Midwest Region semifinal on Friday night.

Zakai Zeigler added 18 points and six assists for the second-seeded Volunteers. When Tennessee lost last year in the regional semifinals for the second straight season, Knecht was at Northern Colorado and Zeigler was out with a torn knee ligament.

Coach Rick Barnes’ Vols (27-8) have matched the longest NCAA Tournament run in school history and hope to get farther than their 2012 team that lost by one point to Michigan State in the Elite Eight.

Tennessee will face top-seeded Purdue, which beat Gonzaga earlier Friday night, on Sunday for the Midwest Region title and a Final Four appearance that has been elusive for both schools.

The third-seeded Bluejays (25-10) reached the Sweet 16 for the third time in four years and fell a win short of equaling their first regional final appearance from last year.

Baylor Scheierman, a third-team All-America wing, had 25 points and some of his teammates struggled against a long and athletic team that plays defense from the logo to the rim.
