“We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of Nic Kerdiles’ passing in a motorcycle accident earlier today. As a proud Irvine native, Nic
made history as the first player from Orange County to join the Ducks in 2017. Our heartfelt condolences and sympathies are extended to his
family and friends during this difficult time.”
NHL forward Nic Kerdiles, aged 29, has tragically passed away, as announced by the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. Kerdiles’ untimely death resulted from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Nashville.
According to reports from WSMV-TV, Metro Nashville police responded to the incident at 3:30 a.m. ET. Allegedly, Kerdiles, riding his motorcycle, failed to stop at a sign and collided with the driver’s side of an SUV. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In their statement, the Ducks emphasized Kerdiles’ significance as the first locally developed player to play for the franchise. Originally from California, Kerdiles relocated with his family during childhood and later pursued Division I hockey at Wisconsin. During his time with the Badgers, spanning 60 games, he accumulated 26 goals and 55 assists.
Selected by the Ducks as the No. 36 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, Kerdiles made his NHL debut in 2017, participating in one regular-season game. He also contributed to the team’s playoff journey that year, appearing in four games and registering one assist as the Ducks advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
During the subsequent season, Kerdiles saw action in two games with the Ducks but primarily played for the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
