‘All round midfielder” West Ham makes inquiry for Diego Gomez

The young Paraguayan’s contract is up for grabs, and the Hammers want to sign him before Brighton & Hove Albion.

An bid that was apparently turned down by the Seagulls was considerably less than the Miami team’s £20 million estimate.

Gomez is reportedly eager to relocate to Brighton, which has shown to be a successful environment for developing young players in recent years.

During his first full season at the Amex, fellow Paraguayan Julio Enciso flourished, making just 30 appearances as a teenager but providing 11 goals. On the South Coast, Gomez would be hoping for a similar outcome.

At the beginning of 23/24, Enciso sustained a meniscus tear, which kept him out for almost the whole campaign. However, still just twenty, he looks set for another impressive campaign under new boss Fabian Hürzeler.

However, despite his interest in joining Brighton, West Ham have more spending power and with the potential ban of Lucas Paqueta, the Hammers need to bolster their midfield options.

These numbers demonstrate that he is just as capable of playing midfield as the Brazilian, even though he may not be able to fully control a game as Lucas Paqueta does when he is performing at his peak. Even though the MLS has better statistics than the Premier League, MLS signings have recently shown their value in Europe.

Diego Gomez might be a wiser and younger replacement for Aleix Garcia, who Bayer Leverkusen lost out on. Going into the MLS season with a bang, Gomez has been playing with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and company. In just six starts, he has contributed two goals and two assists.

The midfielder has been out since the end of April with an ankle injury, but he will be fit enough to join pre-season if he is to make a move to England this summer as he has recently returned to light training.
