Going into the 2023 season, one of the biggest concerns and questions facing the Virginia Tech football team was how good their wide receivers are going to be. It was a group that had some transfers in it, but there were still a lot more questions than answers. Going into 2024, there are no questions surrounding the wide receiver room in Blacksburg.
Across the roster, head coach Brent Pry got a ton of retainment and that includes the wide receiver position. They bring back Da’Quan Felton, Stephen Gosnell and Jaylin Lane, while Ali Jennings returns after transferring to the Hokies from Old Dominion, but an injury in Week 2 cost him the rest of the season after an impressive season-opener against his former team.
With a lot of experience returning on the outside and with quarterback Kyron Drones back, there will be many plays to be made on the outside as we saw toward the of last season.
Virginia Tech greatest strength could open up the offense in 2024
Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten returning is a tough 1-2 punch running the ball for the Hokies this upcoming season, but what could open it up, even more, is the talent that Virginia Tech is returning at wide receiver. Pry joined the ACC Football Kickoff show earlier Tuesday morning on the ACC Network and said that it is arguably one of their biggest strengths.
Along with the veterans, Pry also mentioned some young guys that are also in the room like Ayden Greene who could find himself in the mix with the older players. Last season he had five receptions for 56 yards, mostly in blowouts, but the Tennessee native is talented and gives offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen another option.
