Aaron Rodgers was anticipated to elevate the New York Jets to Super Bowl contention, yet thus far, he’s emerged as a significant distraction. Now, there’s another potential distraction on the horizon.

According to a New York Times report on Tuesday, independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has identified the outspoken Rodgers as a top contender for his running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Kennedy revealed to the Times that he’s been engaged in ongoing discussions with Rodgers for the past month. Another notable figure on Kennedy’s radar is former professional wrestler and former Minnesota governor, Jesse Ventura.

Both Rodgers and Ventura reportedly expressed openness to the idea, welcoming Kennedy’s attention.

Setting aside political considerations, this development only compounds the challenges facing the Jets, adding another layer to the circus surrounding Rodgers’ tenure in New York.

Rodgers’ frequent appearances on “The Pat McAfee Show” have generated headlines with his candid and sometimes controversial remarks. Moreover, the saga surrounding his recovery from an Achilles injury, which prematurely ended his season after just four plays, has left the Jets offense in disarray throughout the year.

Initially, there was optimism that Rodgers would return to full health this season, revitalize the offense, and complement a defense capable of propelling the Jets into contention in the AFC.

However, the current concern for the Jets is the possibility of their franchise quarterback diverting his focus to the presidential campaign trail. Such a scenario was certainly not part of the plan when they acquired him from the Green Bay Packers.

Nevertheless, the Jets find themselves entangled in a narrative that seems tailor-made for a perpetually beleaguered franchise like theirs.
