Amari Cooper leaves Cleveland Browns in NFL trade

Amari Cooper, a five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, was traded to the Buffalo Bills from the Cleveland Browns, the NFL team said Tuesday. In exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the former Alabama All-American is going to Buffalo with a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to the Bills.

Since he was connected to the San Francisco 49ers throughout the preseason, Cooper has been the focus of trade rumors. Cooper was questioned about rumors that connected him to the Kansas City Chiefs as late as last week. Cooper joins Buffalo at the end of his current contract, having caught 24 passes for 250 yards and two scores in six games for the Browns, who have only won one. Even though they traded their best receiver, Stefon Diggs, to the Houston Texans in the offseason, Buffalo still has a 4-2 record and leads the AFC East.

“We’re grateful to have him, but it’s never about just one guy,” said Bills coach Sean McDermott. “It’s about the team. We’re eager to get him on board here and get rolling. … “I think it just adds to our flavor on offense. We’ve been doing some good things, and I think that’ll be an added bonus as we move forward.” Cooper, in his 10th NFL season, has 691 receptions for 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns, including seven seasons with 1,000 yards or more. Khalil Shakir, the Bills’ top wide receiver this season, has 20 receptions for 249 yards and two touchdowns.
