The New York Mets are about to start a new season and a new chapter with their manager, Carlos Mendoza. After breaking the association with their former manager, Buck Showalter, following the disappointing season in 2023, the team signed the former Yankees’ coach Mendoza to meet their sky-high anticipation.

Now, it turns out that the excitement wasn’t one-sided, as the team’s new manager, Mendoza, remarked in his recent interview. With his embracing the new role in the new season, he seemed optimistic, resonating with his team members while depicting his journey to this point.

Mendoza appeared for an interview recently to open up about his first major-league managerial role and the path that led him up to here. BOSTON — The Red Sox continue to widen the field in the search for their next manager.

Boston’s most recent interview came with Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza. The New York Post reported Monday the Red Sox and Mendoza have spoken about the job, making it seven potential new candidates.

The 40-year-old Mendoza is a Venezuela native who spent the last decade with the New York organization. He’s managed the club’s Gulf Coast League affiliate and reached the big leagues as the Yankees infield coach in 2018. Mendoza served two years in that role before being named Aaron Boone’s bench coach in 2020, replacing Josh Bard.

Mendoza spent parts of 13 years as an infielder in the minor leagues and independent leagues. He debuted with the Giants in 1997 and reached Triple-A with both San Francisco and New York. Mendoza’s last affiliated game as a player was in 2009, and he transitioned to an off-field role with the Yankees the following season.

Mendoza joins Cubs third-base coach Will Venable, Pirates bench coach Don Kelly, Diamondbacks bench coach Luis Urueta, Marlins bench coach and offensive coordinator James Rowson, Twins bench coach Mike Bell and Padres associate manager Skip Schumaker among those who have reportedly interviewed for the top job in Boston. Venable and Kelly both spoke with the Red Sox early last week while Urueta, Rowson, Bell and Schumaker all interviewed with the club as the weekend approached.

Venable, Kelly and Urueta all have previous ties with Boston through their respective organizations. Former Red Sox executives Theo Epstein, Ben Cherington and Mike Hazen work in the front office for Chicago, Pittsburgh and Arizona, respectively. It was the second Boston interview this year for Urueta, who also spoke with the club in late January.
