49ers Trade Pitch Lands $25 Million Pro Bowl RB Help Amid Backfield injuries
Just before the regular season, the San Francisco 49ers announced that Christian McCaffrey will miss Week 1 due to an Achilles/calf injury, which was discouraging for their rushing game. Due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis, the 49ers were forced to place one of the league’s most dangerous offensive players on injured reserve. It is unclear if or when the superstar will play this season.
Thankfully, Jordan Mason proved to be a dependable backup for the offense. This season, the third-year Georgia Tech back has 114 carries for 609 yards and three touchdowns. But during the 49ers’ victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6, he suffered a sprained AC joint. Mason’s practice on Wednesday was limited. Mason was seen practicing on Thursday while sporting a blue non-contact jersey, according to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner
. The 49ers should be looking to bolster their backfield before the trade deadline on November 5th, since injuries to their top two running backs in Week 7 have affected them. With the exception of his lengthy run in Week 6, running back Isaac Guerendo, a fourth-round selection, is only averaging 3.0 yards per carry despite his spectacular 76-yard run against the Seahawks.
After the Panthers signed the former Penn State star to a four-year contract worth $25.4 million in the 2023 offseason, Sanders’ reserved role is yet another letdown for the offense, according to Spotrac.
