Last week, the Miami Dolphins made headlines by releasing linebacker Jerome Baker, effectively freeing up $9.8 million in salary cap space.
Despite efforts to negotiate a restructured contract with their 2018 third-round pick, the Dolphins and Baker couldn’t reach an agreement,
leading to his departure. Miami expressed intentions to continue discussions with Baker in hopes of bringing him back. However, recent
signings of linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Anthony Walker during the league’s negotiating period suggest that the Dolphins’ window for
reuniting with Baker may be closing rapidly.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Baker is set to visit the Tennessee Titans on Thursday.
While the Titans have already secured former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray, they are still in need of a second starting
inside linebacker, making Baker a potential target to fill that role.
As the Titans transition from the coaching era of Mike Vrabel to Brian Callahan, they have prioritized bolstering their defense this offseason.
Throughout his tenure with the Dolphins, Baker appeared in every available game for his first five seasons, only missing four contests last year.
Amassing 587 tackles, 21 passes defensed, five interceptions (with two touchdowns), six forced fumbles, and 22.5 sacks in 94 games
(82 starts), Baker showcased his versatility by playing various linebacker positions, including both inside and outside roles, as well as
handling defensive signal-calling duties.
The looming question now is whether the Titans will let Baker leave without securing a contract. Additionally, there is speculation about
potential interest from other teams across the league and the possibility of a return to the Dolphins. As Baker embarks on his seventh NFL
season, his Thursday visit to Tennessee marks the first step in determining his destination for the 2024 season.
