Lamar Demeatrice Jackson Jr. (born January 7, 1997) is an American football quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Louisville Cardinals, where he won the Heisman Trophy during his sophomore year, and was selected by the Ravens as the final first round pick of the 2018 NFL draft. Jackson became the Ravens’ starting quarterback in his rookie season after an injury to incumbent Joe Flacco and clinched a division title with the team, also becoming the youngest NFL quarterback to start a playoff game at age 21.[1]
The next year, Jackson set the single-season record for quarterback rushing yards and led the league in touchdown passes, while helping the Ravens obtain their conference’s top seed.[2][3][4] For his success, he became the second unanimous Most Valuable Player (MVP)[5][6][7] and the fourth African-American quarterback to win the award.[a][8] Jackson followed up his MVP campaign by becoming the first quarterback to have multiple seasons with 1,000 rushing yards and led the Ravens to a third consecutive playoff appearance.[9] Following the 2022 season, he signed a five-year contract worth $260 million, making him the highest paid player in the NFL at the time of the signing.[10] In 2023, Jackson led the Ravens to the top seed in the conference and won NFL MVP for the second time in five seasons.

Jaime Taylor went to Boynton Beach Community High School with Jackson and was three grades younger than him. She’s considered his high school sweetheart, though the two didn’t get together until college. Taylor attended the University of Louisville, where Jackson spent three seasons and won the Heisman Trophy. They began dating in 2017, Jackson’s final year in college.
She’s been by his side ever since. When Jackson was drafted to Baltimore in 2018, Taylor stayed in school to finish her studies. The 609-mile distance didn’t phase them. Instead, it made them stronger.
In 2019, Taylor spoke to the Ravens about the quarterback in an article titled, “Lamar Jackson: Fiercely Determined to Rise Above the Scrutiny.” In his rookie season, he lifted the Ravens to a 10-6 record and an AFC North title for the first time in six years. However, they were upset by the Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. Jackson was often criticized for his passing ability, or lack thereof.
“He’s taught me how to handle criticism,” Taylor said. “I mean, I used to get mad when I’d read stuff. Then I’d look at him, and he’s just fine. He says, ‘Let them do the talking. You don’t have to say anything. Just show them.'”
The quarterback’s advice proved true that season. He won the NFL’s MVP award after leading Baltimore to a 14-2 year, though it ended in another first-round loss. He’s the favorite to win the MVP trophy again this year, and just maybe, the Super Bowl, too.
