Breaking News: Nebraska baseball drops’ two players and recruits five freshman pitchers to prepare for 2024 season

Nebraska worked tirelessly this offseason to add strong players to its roster, particularly on the mound. The team gained seven new pitchers, all with impressive resumes as the Huskers strive to take a Big Ten Championship and another trip to the NCAA tournament in early June.

Right-handed pitcher Ty Horn is an incoming freshman out of Halstead, Kansas. Coming out of high school, Horn was rated as the No. 3 overall prospect in Kansas and the No. 2 right-handed pitcher.

His senior year, Horn had a perfect 6-0 record while pitching in 38.1 innings and allowing a 0.00 ERA. He gave up only 12 hits and struck out 65 opponents. Horn will be a strong addition to the Nebraska pitching rotation for the upcoming season.

Another strong arm heading to Lincoln is Noah Madsen. Madsen is another incoming freshman out of Roseville, California, a suburb slightly north of Sacramento. The right-handed pitcher struck out 17 in 12.1 innings as a senior while hitting an impressive .375 at the plate. Madsen will be a great addition to the Husker lineup, especially offensively if he continues to hit similarly to his high school career.

Nebraska native Tucker Timmerman is the first of three freshman pitchers staying home. Out of Beatrice, Timmerman is the No. 6 prospect in Nebraska and No. 3 pitcher in the state. Timmerman posted a 0.69 ERA his senior year and finished his high school career breaking the Beatrice High School record for lowest ERA.

Another freshman, Ryan Harrahill, is coming to Lincoln from Elkhorn North High School. He was ranked the No. 58 pitcher in the U.S. and earned First Team All-Conference honors during his junior and senior years. He completed his senior season with a 1.03 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. Harrahill led the Wolves to two state championship titles in his final two seasons with the team.

Traveling north a way, Ian Regal is a left-handed pitcher out of Rochester, Minnesota. Regal was named the No. 2 left-handed pitcher in the state of Minnesota. He led the Spartans to a state championship his senior year, producing 62 strikeouts in 41 innings. Offensively, he hit .333 with a 1.006 on-base percentage (OPS), five home runs and 30 RBIs. He looks to be a phenomenal addition to the Husker roster.

Out of Wayne, Nebraska, incoming freshman Brooks Kneifl is the No. 10 prospect in the state as he heads to Lincoln. The left-handed pitcher led the Wayne Blue Devils to a third-place finish at the state tournament. He finished his high school career with a 6-3 record, marking 83 strikeouts and a 1.92 ERA.

The seventh and final addition to the Husker pitching rotation is Carson Jasa. The No. 4 ranked right-handed pitcher comes from Faith Christian Academy in Colorado. It has been his dream since childhood to pitch for the Huskers, and he finally gets to live it.

Nebraska added seven remarkable pitchers to its rotation in hopes of a successful season. The Huskers will play their first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 16 against Baylor at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
