VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota men’s basketball team added three players to the 2024 class on National Signing Day. USD head coach Eric Peterson is excited to welcome Porter Ihnen, Evan Anderson, and Oliver Kokal to the 2024 Coyote men’s basketball class.
Porter Ihnen | Lennox, S.D. | Lennox HS | Guard | 6-6
Ihnen is a four-year varsity starter for the Lennox Orioles. He has scored over 1,000 points in his career and holds the Lennox program record for most points scored in a game (45). Ihnen averaged 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists per game in his junior season. As a sophomore, Ihnen averaged 19.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Ihnen garners first-team all-state and first-team all-conference honors. He also received varsity letters in football, baseball, and track and field. Ihnen is the son of Heath and Sharese Ihnen and plans to study business at USD.
“We are excited to add another high-level player from South Dakota to our roster,” said Peterson. “Porter is a big guard who rebounds at a high level. He can play multiple positions in college and is an excellent athlete. Porter is the ultimate competitor and brings a GATA Mentality to our team.”
Evan Anderson | Onalaska, Wis. | Onalaska HS | Guard | 6-4
Anderson is a first-team all-conference and first-team all-state player for the Onalaska Hilltoppers. The Hilltoppers are the 11th ranked team in the state of Wisconsin. As a junior, Anderson averaged 18.8 points and five rebounds per game. Anderson garners academic all-state honors and holds a 3.9 GPA. He is also a member of the Hilltoppers’ football and golf teams. Anderson is the son of Todd and Steph Anderson and plans to study business at USD.
“Evan is a multi-sport athlete and is just a winner,” said Peterson. “On the floor he is an explosive guard and an excellent shooter. He has been coached at a high level over the past few years and will continue to develop in our program.”
Oliver Kokal | Chesterfield, Mo. | Parkway Central HS | Forward | 6-7
Kokal is a 1,000-point scorer for the Parkway Central Colts. He currently has 1,186 career points, which ranks seventh all-time in Parkway Central school history. Kokal’s 519 career rebounds are fifth all-time at Parkway Central. Kokal is a two-time first-team all-conference player as well as a two-time all-district player. He was a member of the Class 5 All-State team as a junior and he has earned Parkway Central’s Scholar Athlete Award three times. His career personal bests are 38 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists. Kokal is also a member of the Colts’ baseball team and boasts a 4.09 GPA. He is the son of Jeff and Erika Kokal and plans to major in economics at USD.
“Oliver is a versatile forward that can play on the perimeter and in the post,” said Peterson. “He has a high IQ, is a very good athlete, and has the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting. I love his toughness and energy he brings every time he steps on the floor.”
