Two Ex-Dodgers Executives Candidates to Replace Fired Ex-Dodgers Executive: Report
A new chapter was added to the century-old rivalry between the two National League West teams when the San Francisco Giants hired their final president of baseball operations, who was hired directly out of the executive office of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Under Andrew Friedman, Farhan Zaidi led the Dodgers as general manager from 2015 to 2018. 2019 saw him move from Los Angeles to take over the Giants, but he was unable to get San Francisco past their rivals.
In 2021, the Dodgers’ division title run came to an end as the Giants defeated them in the NL Division Series. Under Zaidi, who left in September, they only made it to the postseason once.
Buster Posey, a veteran Giants catcher, took Zaidi’s place as president of baseball operations. As his top lieutenant, he is actively looking for a new general manager.
MLB News: Veteran Team Owner Says He Wants to Look Into Selling The San Francisco Chronicle revealed on Tuesday that two of the leading contenders for general manager of the Giants are former front office employees of the Dodgers, in yet another instance of flattery by imitation. According to Susan Slusser, two of the leading contenders for the Giants general manager position are former Dodgers scouting director Logan White (who is currently a special advisor with the San Diego Padres) and director of player development De Jon Watson (who is currently a special advisor in the Astros front office).
How to Watch Every ALCS and NLCS Game in the MLB Playoffs Billy Owens, a veteran Oakland A’s executive, is expected to be considered for the position as well. The Giants have already asked for permission to interview Owens. Two prominent possibilities who were let go in the past year are former Marlins general manager Kim Ng and veteran Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levine.
In addition, Slusser brought up two former Giants executives during their run of three World Series titles in five years (2010–14): Brian Sabean, who would be “welcome back in an advisory role,” and Bobby Evans, who may not be considered for the GM position but may get an interview. Sabean currently holds a similar role with the New York Yankees.
