Liverpool are eager to lure Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund next summer as a possible replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Nico Schlotterbeck has become a top target for Liverpool ahead of the summer of 2020, according to Caught Offside. The standout player for Borussia Dortmund is well-known in the market, and if he became available for a move, a number of other teams might take an interest. He is seen by the Reds as Virgil van Dijk’s replacement.

Over the past few seasons, Nico Schlotterbeck’s stature has progressively improved, particularly since he moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2022. If the former Freiburg defender becomes available on the market, numerous elite clubs may pursue him, and he could potentially make a significant career transfer outside of Germany. He is currently an established German international.

Real Madrid had their eye on the Bundesliga player after failing to sign Leny Yoro during the summer. Though there’s no proof they wouldn’t come back for him later, his asking price may have made it difficult for the Spanish powerhouses to move at that moment.

Liverpool is the most recent team to consider signing him for the upcoming summer, although Arsenal had previously shown interest. According to the rumor, the Mersyesiders are willing to spend almost €50 million to have him sign. Given Dortmund’s working style, they will probably expect much more from the Bundesliga hero, who may be in high demand among left-sided central defenders.

Liverpool apparently wants to pay him €7 million a season because they see him as Virgil van Dijk’s long-term replacement. For the German international who might play a significant role for Arnew Slot’s team, it’s an intriguing offer. Any shift, though, will be contingent upon the associated costs. The Reds would find Schlotterbeck’s profile to be perfect in their pursuit of replacing Van Dijk if he leaves.

Newcastle United has also been connected to him.
