The San Francisco 49ers and NFL free agent quarterback Joshua Dobbs have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal, according to the player’s agent Mike McCartney. Head coach Kyle Shanahan now has his backup to Brock Purdy, who shouldn’t feel any pressure.
Dobbs, 29, is only going to be used in case of emergency, such as Purdy suffering a significant injury. His arrival to San Francisco comes on the heels of the team losing Sam Darnold in free agency.
Purdy, 24, has only played two seasons in the NFL after the 49ers drafted him with the last overall pick in 2022. He is coming off a Super Bowl appearance, a much higher ceiling than anybody expected from “Mr. Irrelevant.”
Dobbs proved during short stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings last season that he can put together a string of good games, but often starts to fall apart by the fifth contest.
The 49ers traded their former third overall pick, Trey Lance, to the Dallas Cowboys last season in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round draft selection, which further cemented Purdy as the starting QB.
Darnold, 26, never even sniffed the QB1 spot during his only season with San Francisco as Purdy made a league MVP case for himself.
Purdy’s job should be safe, barring any physical setback, and the 49ers will once again be among the top three favorites to win the whole thng.
NFL star Brock Purdy is married!
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback, 24, tied the knot with Jenna Brandt in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday.
The couple, who first met as students at Iowa State University, got engaged in July 2023.
They announced the news on Instagram at the time, each sharing photos of the proposal — which took place on a dock with a view of the water in St. Cloud, Florida — and the celebration with friends that ensued.

“My Jenna girl forever. I can’t wait to be your husband,” Purdy captioned his post. “Here’s to forever babe. I love you JB!”
In her caption, Brandt, also 24, cheered, “We get to do life together…forever!”
“Brock Purdy — I love everything about you … more than any words can say,” she added.
Weeks later, they posed for a photo shoot on the beach, and Brandt shared some of the stunning shots on Instagram. “I get to love you forever. Purdy excited to get a new last name 😘,” she quipped in her caption.

Throughout Purdy’s NFL career — he was tapped by the 49ers in the 2022 draft — Brandt has been his No. 1 fan and supporter. The former collegiate volleyball player has attended many 49ers games in the team’s red and gold gear.
“Always cheering you on, babes ❤️,” she wrote alongside a photo of the pair hugging on the field at Levi’s Stadium in California.
When Purdy made his first Super Bowl appearance in February 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the two shared a sidelines kiss. The sweet moment was captured during CBS’ broadcast of the big game.

In February, Brandt celebrated the pair’s upcoming nuptials with family and friends.
Jenna reposted a photo from her fiancée’s sister, Whittney Purdy. In the picture, the bride-to-be could be seen smiling in a white dress and matching heels while flashing her engagement ring.
“Mrs. Purdy in 3 weeks 💍,” Whittney captioned her Story, which Jenna chimed in with a series of pink exclamation points in excited agreement to caption the repost.
