FRISCO – And now they begin to float and crowd into the ether, another Dallas Cowboys controversy created by the wobbly indecision of the people who run “America’s Team.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, by putting the “Blow It Up” freeze on Dak Prescott contract talks – along with an NFL Network report that insists that Dak’s side is fine with that – creates a look and feel of instability inside The Star. If Dallas isn’t going to commit to Prescott long-term, and vice versa, why not divorce now?
Short of that? Get really for story after story after story detailing not only Dak’s “potential landing spots” in trade now – yes, we’re serious – but for certain, the same sort of stories mentioning team after team after team that he can join in 2025.
To wit .. Rich Eisen said on his TV show that, hey, the Pittsburgh Steelers might not have a quarterback they feel confident in after this season, so why not go sign Prescott?
“What happens if they guy they went ahead and gave pole position doesn’t work out? What if they get a look at Justin Fields and say he’s not the guy,” Eisen said. “Maybe the Steelers are all in. Right now their offense costs nothing … They’ll have the money to give Dak a multiple of that. I think the Steelers might be in on Dak and let him finish his career in Pittsburgh.”
Eisen is referring to the fact that at this moment, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are new to the roster with no future locked in (yet). Wilson is on a one-year deal; Fields is entering the final year of his rookie contract, with Pittsburgh needing to decide whether to pick up his fifth-year option.
And … there is Prescott, entering the final year of his contract, coming off an MVP-runner-up season and boasting a 73-41 mark as a starter in the NFL.
Not every team loves Dak. But the NFL doesn’t have too many QBs who are better than him, either. And now the Dak Debate will expand beyond Dallas and coast-to-coast, all year long, creating yet another distraction at The Star … with the Steelers and the Giants and the Titans and, well, anybody the media wishes to float into the ether … making daily headlines.
Dak Prescott, the star quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, is known for his leadership, arm strength, and ability to make plays both with his arm and his legs. He’s proven himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, capable of leading a team deep into the playoffs.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, historically known for their strong defenses and a balanced offensive attack, have been in need of a long-term solution at quarterback since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. While they’ve had some success with other quarterbacks, including Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, acquiring a proven talent like Prescott could instantly elevate their offense and provide stability at the position for years to come.
For the Dallas Cowboys, trading away Prescott would be a significant move. He’s been the face of the franchise since entering the league and has developed a strong connection with the fanbase. However, if the Cowboys were to receive a substantial package of draft picks and/or players in return, it could potentially set them up for success in the future while allowing them to address other areas of need.
In terms of the potential impact on the NFL landscape, a trade of this magnitude would undoubtedly generate headlines and spark discussions among fans and analysts alike. It would also shift the balance of power within the league, as Prescott’s presence on the Steelers would make them instant contenders in the AFC, while the Cowboys would face questions about their direction and future plans at quarterback.
Ultimately, whether or not such a trade happens depends on various factors, including the willingness of both teams to negotiate, the value each team places on Prescott, and the potential offers that emerge. Until any official announcements are made, it remains speculative, but it’s certainly an intriguing possibility to consider for NFL fans.
