With recruiting visits allowed until Dec. 17, NU’s staff has set out across the country to meet with committed prospects and future recruiting targets. Head coach Matt Rhule has been at the forefront of NU’s high school recruiting efforts.
Rhule spent several days in Texas alongside Husker assistants checking in on Ian Flynt, Roger Gradney, Braylen Prude and Mario Buford.
While defensive line coach Terrance Knighton spent much of the week in Texas as well, he and Rhule connected back inside Nebraska’s borders Thursday to visit Elkhorn South defensive lineman Ashton Murphy. Special teams coordinator Ed Foley resumed his in-state tour as he visited high schools in Norfolk, Columbus, David City, Seward and Grand Island over the last two days.
Wide receivers coach Garret McGuire made a stop Wednesday to Bellevue West. The trio of Thunderbird commits — quarterback Daniel Kaelin and wide receivers Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris — remain vital members of Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class. McGuire then visited another wide receiver commit, Quinn Clark, in Montana Thursday.
New offers: Nebraska coaches extended several 2025 scholarship offers. While visiting Buford at DeSoto High School on Thursday, Rhule offered 2025 edge rusher Keylan Abrams. A 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect who would fit more as a linebacker in Nebraska’s defensive system, Abrams is currently committed to Purdue.
Elsewhere in Texas, Knighton extended a pair of new offers during a trip to Port Arthur Memorial High School. Defensive lineman Michael Riles, a four-star prospect and top-250 recruit in the Class of 2025, was one of those targets. So was linebacker Tai’Yion King, a player who projects to be one of the nation’s top 2026 recruits. Arizona, Baylor, Missouri, Penn State and Washington have offered King as well.
Back in the Houston area, Knighton also offered four-star offensive lineman Dramodd Odoms, a top-100 national recruit in the Class of 2025 according to 247Sports. Odoms has offers from schools like Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
Offensive line coach Donovan Raiola has been successful at recruiting players out of Hawaii — 2024 offensive line commit Preston Taumua stands out as a notable recruiting win — and Raiola offered 2026 offensive lineman Kamo’I Huihui-White on Monday.
2024 walk-on class: While Nebraska had previously taken massive walk-on classes every year, the Huskers have cut down on the number of walk-on additions under Rhule. By the time the dust settled in May, Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class included 15 walk-on players — and the Huskers still added players such as quarterback Luke Longval and defensive lineman James Williams over the summer.
As such, Nebraska’s next walk-on class is also likely to grow in the spring and summer, but the current total of walk-on pledges in the Huskers’ 2024 recruiting class stands at nine.
The walk-on class currently includes Blair quarterback Bode Soukup, Cross County fullback Izaac Dickey, Battle Creek fullback/linebacker Trent Uhlir, Omaha Westside defensive back Preston Okafor, Yutan fullback/linebacker Derek Wacker, Old Tappan (New Jersey) kicker Nico Ottomanelli, Norfolk Catholic offensive lineman Nolan Fennessy, Bishop Neumann athlete Connor Schutt and Elkhorn South defensive lineman Ethan Duda.
