REPORTS: Texas A&M basketball top ranking star set to transfer after arrest on…

Texas A&M power forward Julius Marble has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal as a graduate transfer, GigEm247 confirmed Monday. On3 first reported the news about Marble, who has one season of collegiate eligibility remaining.

Marble spent the entire 2023-24 season away from the Aggie team for what head coach Buzz Williams previously described as a “university process.” According to Brazos County Jail records, Marble was arrested on April 18 for a sexual assault charge from October 2023. He was released later that day on a $50,000 surety bond.

On April 18, A&M athletics released a statement to GigEm247 about Marble remaining away from the team.

“Texas A&M Athletics is aware of the situation and the student-athlete’s status with the University has not changed,” the statement read.

After joining the Aggies ahead of the 2022-23 season, Marble made an immediate impact. The Michigan State transfer appeared in all 35 games with 30 starts that season while ranking fourth and fifth on the team in points (9.1) and rebounds (4.1) per game, respectively. He also connected on a team-high 53.3% of his field goal attempts.

Last August, Marble participated in all three of the exhibition games that A&M played during its one-week foreign tour in the Bahamas. However, he did not play in the Aggies’ closed scrimmage against Baylor last October. Marble also did not take part in the preseason “Media Day” session that they held with the local media on Oct. 26, 2023.

“He is not able to take part in team activities,” Williams said during that Media Day event. “He is going through a university process. I am not privy to any of that, so I can’t comment on it further. But that is where it stands.”

Three other players have departed A&M for the transfer portal this offseason: point guard Bryce Lindsay (scholarship), power forward Tyler Ringgold (walk-on) and center Brandon White (walk-on). Lindsay received minimal playing time as a true freshman last season and redshirted. Ringgold and White did not play.

The Aggies have landed verbal commitments from two scholarship transfers: guard CJ Wilcher (Nebraska) and power forward Pharrel Payne (Minnesota). A&M remains active in the portal, particularly with its pursuit of SMU transfer guard Zhuric Phelps.
