Alabama basketball guard Mark Sears received another accolade for his stellar season on Tuesday morning, being named a second team All-American by the Associated Press
Sears was also named a second team All-American by Sporting News last week, giving him two of the four needed for consensus All-American status. The United States Basketball Writers Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches have yet to release their lists.
Sears had a phenomenal season for the Crimson Tide, leading the team to a 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament with a 21-11 overall record and a 13-5 record in SEC play. He averaged 21.1 points per game, while adding 4.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He shot over 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc during the season.
His play also earned him a first team All-SEC selection, one year after being named second team All-SEC in 2023.
Sears is the third Alabama basketball player to be named an AP All-American during Oats’ tenure, joining Herb Jones (third team, 2021) and Brandon Miller (first team, 2023).
Alabama is now preparing for the NCAA Tournament, where it will face 13-seed Charleston in Spokane, Washington in the first round on Friday at 6:35 p.m. CT.
