The Chicago Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night, a person informed of the deal told The Associated Press.
Chicago will receive a conditional 2025 pick, another person familiar with the details of the trade told the AP.
The move is a strong signal the Bears will draft a QB — perhaps USC’s Caleb Williams — with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the teams haven’t announced the trade. NFL Network first reported the deal.
Fields figures to back up nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on Friday. Pittsburgh also traded Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed special teams ace Miles Killebrew to a two-year contract on Monday and also came to terms with wide receiver Van Jefferson on a one-year deal.
Killebrew, a safety, earned All-Pro honors for the first time as a special teams selection in 2023. He collected 13 tackles in kick coverage and blocked a punt that turned into a momentum-shifting safety in a victory over Baltimore on Oct. 8.
The 30-year-old Killebrew also played 111 snaps on defense, his highest total since joining the Steelers in 2021 after five seasons in Detroit.
Jefferson joins Pittsburgh after splitting time between Atlanta and the Los Angeles Rams last season. The 27-year-old Jefferson has 113 career receptions for 1,600 yards and 10 touchdowns in 61 career games, most of them with the Rams.
The Steelers are in serious need of depth at wide receiver after trading Diontae Johnson to Carolina last week and letting Miles Boykin go in free agency, leaving George Pickens and Calvin Austin as the only receivers on the roster who caught passes with the team in 2023.
The NFL announced changes and updates to the Week 15 schedule Thursday. These changes affect both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns.
Pittsburgh will play its Week 15 game on Saturday, December 16th against the Colts. Game is slated for 4:30 pm on NFL Network and is part of a tripleheader of games that day.
Cleveland will host Chicago on Sunday, December 17th. That game is at 1:00 pm.
The Buffalo Bills will still host the Dallas Cowboys on December 17th at 4:25 pm. There is no change to that game.
The AFC wildcard game between the Steelers and the Bills at Highmark Stadium has been postponed to Monday at 4:30, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced Saturday.
The game will still be played at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
“The NFL has agreed with our assessment that we need to postpone tomorrow’s playoff game until 4:30 pm Monday afternoon. It will continue to be played at Highmark field right in Orchard Park. It’s all part of our critical efforts to keep New Yorkers, motorists and fans safe from this wildly unpredictable storm,” said Hochul in a news conference earlier today.
Hochul also announced a travel ban beginning at 9:00 pm Saturday evening for Erie County (NY). It will be reassessed at 6:00 am Sunday morning.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
