**Chicago Bears Act Swiftly as D. J. Moore Announces Retirement**
In a surprising turn of events, veteran wide receiver D. J. Moore has announced his retirement from the NFL, leaving the Chicago Bears scrambling to fill the void left by his departure. Moore, known for his agility and precise route-running, has been a key player for the Bears since joining the team in 2021. His absence will undoubtedly leave a noticeable gap in the Bears’ offensive lineup.
The news of Moore’s retirement sent shockwaves through the Bears’ organization, prompting immediate action from management. General Manager Ryan Pace wasted no time in addressing the situation, vowing to explore all available options to bolster the team’s receiving corps.
“We respect D. J.’s decision to retire and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Pace in a statement released by the team. “However, our focus now shifts to ensuring that we have the necessary depth and talent at the wide receiver position to maintain our competitiveness.”
Rumors have already begun to swirl regarding potential candidates to replace Moore on the roster. Speculation has centered around both free-agent receivers and possible trade targets, with names like Allen Robinson and Odell Beckham Jr. being floated as potential options.
Head Coach Matt Nagy remained optimistic in the face of adversity, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to adapt and overcome challenges.

The 2024 NFL Draft is quickly approaching and Pro Days are beginning to get underway around the nation.
The Chicago Bears have been busy over the last few days with free agency starting to dwindle down and have sent already scouting parties to various major Pro Days at different top universities. On Friday, the main attraction for many teams around the league was the University of Michigan’s Pro Day.
The following members of the Bears’ contingent were reportedly seen at Michigan’s Pro Day: General manager Ryan Poles, head coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph, and wide receivers coach Chris Beatty.
The Bears’ staff in attendance at the major event were getting first-hand looks at some of the university’s top prospects including quarterback J.J. McCarthy, wide receiver Roman Wilson, defensive lineman Kris Jenkins, running back Blake Corum, and offensive lineman Zak Zinter.
McCarthy was the prospect all of the scouts, executives, and coaches had their eyes on today as the quarterback continues to rise up draft boards into the Top-10 of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Bears are continuing to do their due diligence on the top quarterbacks in the class with Poles, Eberflus, Waldron, and Joseph in attendance to watch McCarthy workout, days after watching Caleb Williams at the USC Pro Day.
However, the most interesting sighting was seeing Beatty among the names of the Bears’ contingent in attendance. As Jim Nagy pointed out, Beatty was the only wide receiver coach in attendance in Ann Arbor which could be even more telling.
Could The Bears Be Keeping Tabs on WR Roman Wilson?
By sending Beatty to the Michigan Pro Day, some well trained eyes could link the Bears to Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson, who is evaluated among the second tier of wide receivers in the upcoming draft class.
Wilson finished his final year at Michigan with 12 receiving touchdowns capped off with a National Championship win. At the NFL Combine, Wilson was tied for the 6th-fastest 40-yd dash time among wide receivers and looked solid throughout the drills.
Our very own Travis May collected over 100 top mock drafts to create a consensus big board to see where some of the top prospects have been landing at. The board has Wilson listed at 49th overall, so essentially he’s on average been mocked as a second round pick. The Bears currently do not have a pick in the second round and in fact have no picks between #9 and #75 which makes things even more interesting.
The Bears’ front office could easily have Wilson on their radar in the 2024 NFL Draft if the team could somehow finds a way to net a pick in the second round of the draft. Given this interest and the Bears lack of draft capital, that seems to be the only way Wilson could land in their potential draft range.
Another interesting thought could be that the Bears are also keeping tabs on another Michigan wide receiver entirely in Cornelius Johnson who could be a late round sleeper at the position. Johnson had 600+ yards in two of the last three seasons for the Wolverines but only recorded one touchdown in 2023.
This could just be an overreaction to who’s in attendance with no basis to the argument as all teams try to be deliberate with who they send to the Pro Days to avoid giving away any draft plans they might have going into April. However, it’s still worth keeping an eye on in case the Bears somehow land a pick in the second round.
NFL free agency is just around the corner, where the Chicago Bears have plenty of players set to hit the open market and other veterans around the league who will certainly be of interest for Bears general manager Ryan Poles.
